Case Studies
UPS
Concluding its trial and due diligence of Traffilog and other driver behavior solution providers, UPS choose to proceed to full fleet installation with the Traffilog solution due to swift results it was able to produce in such a short time frame. Units today a total of 30 vehicles have been installed in the Israeli UPS branch out of a total global fleet size of 20,000. The following graph shows that during the blind period a total of 2094 events were recorded, these events can be split the three main areas of Braking, Cornering and Acceleration. These events can also be split further into high, medium and low levels. By the completion of the 4 week driver training period the total number of events had been reduced by 89.2% to only 226. ![]() The following tables show the reductions in the total number of high level events in the individual areas of acceleration, braking and cornering during the blind profiling as well as throughout the 4 week training period. ![]() ![]() Reducing the amount of safety events not only increases the safety of the drivers and fleet but also reduces the operating costs associated. Today, it is widely accepted that the human factor is in fact the main factor impacting fuel consumption and accelerated wear and tear of the vehicles. Acceleration events directly influence the fuel consumption rate. Based on Traffilog's calculations an acceleration event amounts to 0.14USD** on average. Taking the case at hand we noted a decline in 654 acceleration events (on average per week) from the blind monitoring to the active pilot stage. This in itself amounts in immediate savings to the customer during the trial period of $91.56. Based on this factor we can deduct that of the 30 vehicles installed each individual vehicle saves on average $3 per week. If we expand this calculation to the entire fleet size of 20,000 vehicles we reach a significant amount of $61,040 or a $3,174,080 savings for the entire year based on the decrease in fuel consumption as a result of the acceleration event reductions. Performing a similar calculation to braking events, Traffilog is able to increase the life span of the vehicles brake pads by decreasing the amount of braking events by drivers. In this case, the reduction in all braking events on average from the blind monitoring to active pilot amounted to 207 braking events. Braking events are translated to be about $0.13US. Performing the same calculations as above we can deduct that each vehicle saved $.90 on the reduction in braking events. This amounts to an average $17,940 per week savings on the entire fleet and a $932,880 savings for the entire year. Based on these calculations by simply reducing the acceleration and braking events in the entire fleet in the same reduction rate as was successfully accomplished during the trial period the customer can save in total $4,106,960 during one year. By utilising the fuel management capabilities of the Traffi-Safe solution we were able to prove that the total fuel consumed by these vehicles between the initial blind profiling stage and the end of the driver training stage had reduced by a remarkable 18%. This information was also verified by the customer's records of fuel utilization. Summary Direct and indirect benefits will be delivered by the Traffi-Safe Team solution.
